To feel the touch of nature, Ooty is a right spot for the lover of nature. It is located at a distance of 105 km away from Coimbatore. It sparkles with fresh vegetation and sceneries. It is “queen of all hill station”. The height of the hills in the Nilgiri range varies between 2280 and 2290 meters. It attracts the tourist by its charming flowers. Lofty mountains, dense forest, acres and acres of tea estates are green feast for the eyes of the tourist.
Ooty Botanical gardens, lamb’s rock and Dobabetta peak, kalhatty fallskandal, cross shrine, mini garden and rose garden; Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park are till more amusing places in Ooty and its surroundings. Ooty lake boating is a remarkable spot which highly entertains the tourist. Udagamandalam otherwise called as Ooty. Its mountain train journey on a ratchet and restrain track which commences from kallar will give a new adventures effect.

This garden was laid out earlier by Marquis of Tweedale, the then governor of Madras in 1847. This garden covers an area of 22 acres. A fossil tree trunk of 20 million years is preserved here. The flora of the garden consist of six section comprising varieties of tree species, grass carpet, variety of ferns, fashioned beds laid beds laid out in an Italian style, multi coloured flowering plants, house ferns and orchids and nurseries. This garden will create tourist’s mind a memorable one. Annual flower show is held here in May every year. This garden is maintained by Tamil Nadu Horticulture Dept.

About one Km. distance, an artificial lake can be seen with a charming look, which was formed in 1824 by Mr. John Sullivan,the then Collector of Coimbatore. Tamil Nadu tourism Development Corporation provided the following facilities to the tourists.

Ooty Mini Garden

Ooty Doddabetta
The Doddabetta Peak stands at an altitude of 2,623 meters. It is the highest point in the district, making it possibly the best vantage point around Ooty. It is merely 10kms from Ooty so you can simply grab your camera and head straight to the peak, and click amazing pictures of the valley below. On a clear day, which is honestly not that often, one can see far off areas, even the plains of Coimbatore and the flat highlands of Mysore.
The Doddabetta Peak is said to be one of the highest peak in south India & famous tourist spot in India. Ooty is undisputedly one of the best hill stations of South India and anyone who visits it is so completely charmed by its beauty that he cherishes the desire to visit it over and over again.
There is a “Telescope house” that is run by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation in the Doddabetta Peak to enable the tourist to get a better view. Any visitor is sure will be impressed after a visit to this highest peak of the Nilgiris. Trekking to the top peak as it is not very challenging, and at the same time provides views that are worth every step you take through the jungles.
The Mukkurthi Peak & National Park- Ooty
A trip from Ooty to Mukurthi Peak and National Park is one of the most beautiful excursions from Ooty. The peak is just 40 km from Ooty and the park spreads on the South Eastern side of the Nilgiri mountain range.Mukkurthi Peak and National Park is the choice of many commercial film production houses for its natural beauty. The national park has a number of interesting endemic species, totally counting to be around thirty – seven varieties.The dam is part of the Pykara hydro electricity project. The Parson’s valley, Pykara and Portimund are great trekking trails from Mukurthi peak. The best time to visit Mukurthi Peak is between the months of February to May and one can opt to stay overnight at the nearby Avalanche forest rest house.
This Sanctuary lies at an elevation of 1140 mts in the junction point of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and extends over and area of 321 sq.kms.A variety of habitats ranging from tropical ever green forest, moist teak forest, secondary grass lands and swamps are found. Panther, Sambar,spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Wild boar,Porcupine etc. The avifauna is varied with Minivets. Hornbills, Fairy Blue Birds, Jungle Fowls etc. The Reptilions are represented by
Python,MonitorLizard, Flying Lizard, etc. It is approachable from Ooty by road Via two different routes. Via Kalhatty 36 Kms from Ooty and the other route is Via. Gudulur which is 67 Kms. form Ooty. It can also be approachable from Mysore which is at a distance of 91′Kms. The other picturesque scenic spots in the sanctuary include the Moyar Waterfalls,Ombetta swamp, Theppakad elephant camp etc.
The sanctuary visiting times are: 7.00 a.m to 9.00 a.m and 4.00 p.m to 6.00 p.m.

Ooty Deer Park
Deer Park is situated at a distance of 1km from Ooty Lake. Deer Park was inaugurated in the year 1986 and it covers an area of about 22 hectares. This park is known to be one of the high altitude animal parks in India. The park is very beautiful and provides people a chance to observe wildlife at its natural habitat. Apart from animals there are also several aquatic birds that adds to the park.
The attractions of the park are Chittal, Sambar, and Hare etc…
It is one of the beautiful picnic spot in Ooty that is worth visiting.
